Medical education in Greece shapes not only the knowledge of medical students, but also their identity as future health professionals. The curriculum determines theoretical and clinical training, skills, and the ability to respond to the needs of patients and society.

The HelMSIC Policy Document on the Curricula of Greek Medical Schools constitutes a documented and collective effort to capture the needs, gaps, and proposals of medical students at a national level.

Specifically, it examines the state of the curricula of the seven Greek Medical Schools, based on international standards of medical education (WFME, CanMEDS, SPICES) and on evaluations of the schools. From this analysis arise all the proposals addressed in the document, with the aim of modernizing medical education in our country.

More specifically, weaknesses are identified at both structural and content levels, such as the limited implementation of student-centered and problem-based methods, the dominance of the traditional lecture, inadequately and unsystematically organized clinical training, insufficient assessment of clinical and soft skills, and limited exposure to Primary Health Care and the provision of care to vulnerable groups. In addition, the need to strengthen research training, to use advanced educational materials, and to increase student participation in evaluation processes is emphasized.

Recognizing the need for a coordinated effort involving all levels and stakeholders, HelMSIC also includes in the Policy Document a specific call to action addressed to the administrations of Medical Schools, faculty members, student associations, medical students themselves, and state authorities. The central goal is the creation of a modern, student-centered, and socially oriented curriculum, connected to Public Health needs and aligned with international quality standards, following the path of model institutions abroad.

Such a document is not merely a position paper. It is a tool for institutional advocacy, a documented recording of needs and proposals, and a framework for dialogue with Medical Schools and relevant bodies on behalf of medical students.

For this reason, HelMSIC calls on every medical student to read the Policy Document, participate in related actions and discussions, and contribute to the dissemination and promotion of its positions.
