Throughout the year, HelMSIC organizes three National Meetings: one in July, one in November/December, and one in April/May. These are milestone events where medical students interact, get educated, discuss, and make collective decisions. Each National Assembly lasts three days, during which issues concerning the national and administrative character of HelMSIC, as well as the Standing Committees (Public Health, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Research Exchanges, Clinical Exchanges, Medical Education, and Human Rights and Peace), are discussed. Each National Meeting is hosted in a city with a Medical School, supported and sponsored by it.
What does a National Meeting include?
The various parts of a National Assembly have their own unique character and contribute to different goals. Specifically, they involve:
Plenary sessions where administrative issues are discussed, past activities are reviewed, and decisions for upcoming events are made.
Standing Committee Sessions aimed at familiarizing participants with the themes of each Standing Committee, that are often not sufficiently covered by the Medical Schools’ curriculum.
Peer education trainings for developing both soft (like communication, collaboration, and efficiency) and practical skills, such as organizing programs.
Educational sessions addressing various aspects of HelMSIC’s activities, such as international representation and advocacy, offering a better understanding of the organization’s operations.
